- Thursday 1 October
Innovative volunteer organisations carry significant ethical responsibilities and face a range of complex challenges.
Join this lecture, based on a research project exploring existence and ethics in social support organisations, to examine the challenges of voluntary social work.
Following an introduction to the philosophy of ethics and responsibility, you will be introduced to the Danish NGO Fonden Bindeleddet, which works with volunteer mentoring programmes. Fonden Bindeleddet has been a pioneer in using social and existential mentoring as a method for social integration. The challenge lies in how to be a good mentor to young people in vulnerable situations while organising such efforts in a responsible and ethical way.
During the lecture, you will gain insights into ethics and responsibility in social support organisations, ethical dilemmas in volunteer work, and findings from a research-based podcast report. The session will also provide broader perspectives on ethics within social entrepreneurship.
