Can an arts-based teacher education strengthen both the arts and public welfare?
The arts can foster community, wellbeing, and creative development among children, young people, and citizens. Yet artistic subjects continue to play a diminishing role in teacher and pedagogy education programmes. At the same time, many young people with artistic ambitions are looking for a path that allows them to both develop their creative practice and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
In this discussion, we explore whether an arts-based pedagogy education programme could be part of the solution. How can we strengthen artistic competencies within the teaching and pedagogical professions? Could a new educational pathway create better opportunities for young artists who want to combine their creative practice with teaching and pedagogy? And what impact could this have on children, young people, and communities?
