THURSDAY 1 OCTOBER

Experience a felted wool artwork created at Roskilde Festival 2026.

  • Thursday 1 October

What do folk dancing and felt have in common? They both emerge through repeated movements and are deeply rooted in our shared cultural history. On the raw concrete walls of Hall 7, you can experience a wool artwork created through collective effort and folk dance.

At Roskilde Festival 2026, the wool collective Hedestrik will create three large banners for the Food Court façade. Inspired by rural communities of the past, Hedestrik transforms traditional craft techniques into vibrant and festive gathering points. Through two workshops at the festival campsite, participants will first lay out the felt together — before the work is completed through a shared folk dance choreography where movement, craft, and community merge.

At GRASP, you can experience the result of these workshops in Hall 7 through the artwork Woolwork: A Craft Across Time. In addition to the installation, you can also experience Hedestrik’s artistic decorations on the stage in Hall 7, in Mellemrummet at Roskilde Festival Højskole, and at the Event Stage at the Rock Museum.

Hedestrik is a community working with raw Danish wool. They highlight Nordic wool — often considered a leftover material — by promoting traditional crafting principles as an alternative to the fast-paced yarn industry. In 2024, Hedestrik opened a wool culture house in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, and published the book Hedestrik; Wool, Craft and Landscapes.

Dive into dogme knitting and unleash your creativity together with Hedestrik in an interactive workshop on Saturday, October 3.

The artwork is presented by Hedestrik.
