GRASP OPENING: Thursday

THURSDAY 25 SEPTEMBER

Join us for the opening of Thursday at GRASP!

  • Thursday 25 September
    09:30, Hal 7

We gather for a shared experience with highlights from the program. Besides introducing you to what’s ahead, the openings mark a core value of GRASP: that art plays a vital role in sustainable change. That’s why every opening begins with an artistic experience.

As Thursday’s artistic prelude, you can experience the performance The Advantages of Being Dyslexic by visual artist Julie Nymann. The Advantages of Being Dyslexic offers an intimate and playful encounter with voices, stories, and a live choir. It provides insight into how people with dyslexia perceive the world – told through personal narratives and the power of community. The choir consists of students from VUC Roskilde with lived experience of dyslexia, alongside professional singers. The performance is in Danish, but everyone is welcome.

The Advantages of Being Dyslexic at GRASP 2025 is an expansion and further development of Julie Nymann’s graduation work from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2024, first staged at Roskilde Festival 2025 in collaboration with Art Hub Copenhagen. The sound installation is based on accounts from 80 children, young people, and adults with dyslexia, collected by Julie in 2023.

In addition to the performance, you can also experience Julie Nymann’s installation Our Voices Are Dreams of the Future in Hall 7, as well as take part in a communal long-table dinner inspired by her artistic practice on Thursday, September 25.

After the artistic opening, we will hear from several speakers in the program, including Nana Asantewa Afadzinu, Executive Director of the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), Tue Foged, co-founder and Creative Director at EFFEKT, and visual artist Esben Holk.
