Artistic activism, disobedience and disruption

FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER

Can music and art mobilize people and challenge the status quo in the fight for a sustainable future?

  • Friday 26 September
    13:00, RoFH: Mellemrummet

Can artists be voices for change? What is the music industry’s opportunities as well responsibilities to take action for a sustainable and climate just future?

Music has been a dominant part in many of history’s social movements and revolutions. The temporary sanctuaries that concerts and festivals create can provide citizens with strength, hope, and community. At the same time, artists can tell stories of a radically different and better future.

Since 2021, the youth-led movement Climate Live – sprung from Fridays For Future – has teamed up with artists, music festivals and scientists, trying to find ways to convey a message of unity and well-being for people and the planet. They have explored different forms of artistic activism and advocacy, as well as cultural disobedience and disruption of business as usual.

During this session, Climate Live will share concrete examples of how artists and their fanbases can put the climate crisis on the agenda through the power of music.

The session will be introduced by an audiovisual performance – inspired by the forces of nature, a tribute to the forest and the beings that reside there – performed live by Kamilla Sol. It will also include a panel discussion with pioneers, activists and cultural changemakers.

Participants:

  • Kamilla Sol, Artist and Activist from southern Sápmi
