With the concept of the Unspoken Norm, disability researcher and author Emil Falster puts words to an often-overlooked reality: the way our society is designed is based on a bodily norm that leaves little room for variation, illness and disability. Together with a panel of practitioners from the cultural and municipal sectors, Emil Falster explores how this unspoken norm has significant consequences for those who fall outside it – and how it limits many people’s opportunities to participate in society on equal terms.
On stage, Emil Falster is joined by project manager Louis Mølsted Andersen, who has spent several years working to implement a more inclusive approach to design across the City of Copenhagen. His work has contributed to the political decision that the city should be shaped according to the principles of universal design. The panel also features theatre director Rikke Hedeager, who has persistently worked to open up Revolver Theatre to more people through its programme – while quite literally tearing down walls in the process.
