Good Ancestors is an exhibition exploring how art, culture and practices from around the world can connect generations and make our responsibility for the future more tangible.
At GRASP, you can experience, among other things, a musical composition designed to last 1,000 years, a forest growing paper for books that will not be read until 2114, and a pyramid being built one stone at a time over the course of 1,200 years.
The exhibition also presents traditions of care across generations and examples of how future generations can be given a voice in the political decisions we make today. Together, the works challenge our understanding of time and invite us to consider how we can be good ancestors to those who come after us.
Good Ancestors was first presented at the UN Summit of the Future in New York in 2024, in connection with the adoption of the Pact for the Future, and later at UNESCO’s World Futures Day in 2025. The exhibition has also contributed to the development of the European Commission’s 2026 Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness, which will be presented at GRASP.
